The Best Resource If You're Considering a Move to DSM USA

DSM Resource

September 19, 2022

Eleven years ago, I lived just outside of Las Vegas, in Henderson, Nevada. My parents moved to Nevada in 1994 after the devastating Northridge earthquake in California. I was only 12 years old. Having grown up half of my life in Nevada, I knew after college I wanted to venture out and move somewhere else.

My oldest daughter was born a year after I graduated college, so I ended up staying in Nevada longer than planned.

I became a single mom with a 5-year-old that had just started kindergarten when I was offered a dream job as a National Sales & Marketing Manager. Along with the opportunity came the flexibility to live anywhere in the Midwest. So, I began my research!

Naturally, as a mom, the first thing I Googled was public school rankings. In 2011, Iowa ranked 5th best in the nation for public K-12 education. While researching moving to Iowa, I came across DSMpartnership.com. I loved the easy-to-navigate website that included everything I needed with topics like:

I learned Iowa was among the top 10 states for raising a family, housing affordability and safety. I requested a free information packet, and it arrived within a week! The packet included information on DSM regarding education, local attractions and crucial information that anyone thinking about moving to Iowa would find useful. Within a few months, I relocated with my daughter on Thanksgiving weekend in November 2011.

Making a Life in DSM

I met my husband Scott, an Iowa native, in January of 2013. Scott was also raised by a single mom, and we could relate on many things. In April 2013, my younger brother Michael came to visit from Nevada for my daughter’s seventh birthday. Michael graduated with a degree in Finance from UNLV in May 2012 and was having a difficult time finding a job after college. I recommended he apply for jobs in DSM and I mentioned they had a section for that on DSMpartnership.com. He decided to give it a try just to see if he would have any luck outside of Nevada. To our surprise, he had three interviews lined up two days later! Michael relocated to Iowa in the summer of 2013. Two years later, I was engaged to my now husband Scott, he adopted my daughter and we had a second daughter that recently turned six. Our oldest daughter is now sixteen and a straight-A student! I feel proud to call Iowa home, for the incredible opportunities my family and I have living here.

Now I love my new career as a New Home Specialist for D.R. Horton. We have 28 locations in the region, with single family, twin Homes and townhomes. I can’t thank DSMpartnership.com enough for providing the resources to make relocating so much easier. I felt supported and informed with great advice every step of the way.
