Thank You Military Families and Community Members

Military Thank You

As last month’s Military Appreciation Month ends, we respectfully pay tribute to those who have sacrificed for our freedom. We take this time to say thank you to our loved ones and the employers that support us. The Traditional Soldier, or someone who serves part-time with the Guard, has a duty to both state and nation while also maintaining a full-time career and, in many cases, a family. They have raised their right hand and sworn an oath to serve and are always ready for whatever task is put before them, both domestically and abroad. This wouldn’t be possible without the understanding and help from families and loved ones who carry the burden when they are away.

We also appreciate the employers and business leaders who allow them the time to attend necessary training and missions. In many ways these Traditional Soldiers have a bigger challenge ahead of them than a full-time Service Member. They have chosen to be a part of something greater than themselves, while still living and working in Iowa. We are honored to serve the great state of Iowa and want to acknowledge the appreciation shown from our communities across the state.

How to Show Your Support

Looking for a way to support service members this summer? Sign up for the Iowa National Guard Trench Run taking place on Sunday, Aug. 11. The race is a 10K trail-run through Camp Dodge in Johnston, and runners will navigate military simulations including trenches, military vehicles, streams and more.

Visit the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum at Camp Dodge in Johnston to also show your support. Admission is free to this Des Moines’ People Choice Award 2023 Best Museum winner. At the museum, explore exhibits, visit the Museum Book Store and more.
