Iowa Ranked One of the Top States in the Union

Iowa State Capital

2018 State of the Union

In anticipation of the 2018 State of the Union address by President Donald Trump Tuesday, Politico Magazine ranked the state of each state in the union.

Combining 14 metrics using data from the Census Bureau, other government agencies and nonprofits, the article ranked the 50 states and the District of Columbia to offer a clearer picture of each state’s strengths and weaknesses.

Iowa came in as the 7th best state in the union.

The Hawkeye state, which came out as the second best in the Midwest behind Minnesota, scored highly for its low unemployment rate (5th), home ownership rate (4th) and percentage of high school graduates (11th).

For context, Greater Des Moines (DSM) compares even more favorably. Unemployment in DSM is 2.4% compared with 2.9% in Iowa and per capita income in DSM is $50,677 compared to $49,246 for the nation.

If Iowa is one of the best states in the nation, then DSM is certainly one of the best cities!
