What is your Chamber’s biggest accomplishment in the past 12 months?  

The biggest accomplishment of our Chamber has been the addition of Des Moines’ Northside. That has led the rebrand of East and South Chamber of Commerce to FuseDSM. This was a result of several business and community leaders on the Northside that did not have a Chamber presence asking to be incorporated, or rather, fused with the East and South Chamber. Business leaders there approached us due to the “spark” our current members have leading business growth, community betterment and long-lasting relationships. Our members pride themselves on being inclusive to all businesses and organizations that have the same passion to ignite the growth and development of Greater Des Moines (DSM).

When deciding the new rebrand, the same themes kept coming up about the members of FuseDSM — infusion of communities geographically and the ignition of the spark needed to make our city a better place to live and do business.

In my opinion, the strongest part of the rebrand is the “Your Chamber of Commerce” tagline. It gives ownership to our members and emphasizes our inclusivity of all businesses, large and small. It also best describes the ethnically diverse and unique industries we serve. Our members are the fire-starters; the spark of growth in our community.

I joined FuseDSM because it had a strong reputation for being member focused, inclusive and being that spark in the community. As I have become more involved, it is clear that FuseDSM goes above and beyond this reputation. 

What’s a signature offering of your Chamber?

FuseDSM gives $5,000 in scholarships to students annually, as well as $2,000 in charitable donations to support our community. We have a lot to be proud of and our success is most apparent through our dynamic programming that addresses the needs of our 400 plus members, our board of directors and our staff.
