St. Vincent de Paul and Des Moines Area Community College’s (DMACC’s) Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families is keeping busy creating opportunities through employment support programming and events. Here are the latest offerings to help connect and improve individuals’ employability and assist in connecting people with positions at Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses and organizations.

The first hour is reserved for Veterans and service members. The general public is welcome at 11 a.m.  This event is sponsored by DMACC in conjunction with Home Base Iowa and IowaWorks. • Walk-In Wednesday Welder Hiring Event with Arcosa Careers
  • Held on Wednesdays, June 11, July 16, Aug. 13, Sep. 10, Oct. 8 and Nov. 12 | 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Located at Arcosa Wind Towers in Newton (801 N 19th Ave East in Newton) 
  • Onsite interviews and welding tests will be provided at the event
  • Everyone with welding experience (work experience and/or school experience) are encouraged to attend
  • Candidates need to dress appropriately (Long sleeve shirt, jeans, steel toe/leather boots) and their welding PPE
• Every Tuesday and Wednesday: Sevita Healthcare will hold open interviews from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for Direct Support Professionals at 6955 Vista Drive in West Des Moines. Submit an application prior to attending the event.
• Wednesday, June 25, 2025: MercyOne will hold a Walk-in Wednesday Hiring Event at various MercyOne locations across Iowa on the last Wednesday of each month. The next event is from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. On-the-spot interviews will be held at MercyOne West Des Moines at 1755 59th Pl. in West Des Moines. Review the job posting prior to attending the event, and come prepared to interview and dress accordingly.
