October 2, 2019

DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA (Oct. 2, 2019) – The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines will begin its October hours of 8 a.m. — Noon this Saturday, instead of its usual 7 a.m. start. The later start provides more daylight as vendors prepare their stands for the arrival of Market patrons. The Market spans nine city blocks in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) in the Historic Court District: On Court Avenue from Water Street to Fifth Avenue and extending north and south on Second Avenue, Third Street and Fourth Street. The Market supports nearly 300 local small business owners, including farmers, producers, bakers and artists that represent 50 counties across the state of Iowa.

Over the next four Saturdays in October, fall produce will include sweet potatoes, butternut squash, beets, garlic, apples and fall-themed baked goods and treats such as caramel apples, apple cider, apple pie, pumpkins, fall mums, unique gourds, flowers and plants – and so much more.

“Fall is here, and the Downtown Farmers’ Market has all the fresh produce to help you enjoy the season,” said Downtown Farmers’ Market Director Kelly Foss. “Patrons can find fall favorites like pumpkins, apples and fall-themed baked goods and enjoy time with friends and family exploring all The Market has to offer.”

The Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market will return on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 and again on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14. The Winter Market will be in a new location this year at Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center.
