Downtown Des Moines (DSM) is known for incredible restaurants, but if you haven’t been here in a while, you might need to head this way because we’ve got a list of three hotspots you won’t want to miss.

Located in The Historic East Village, Railroad Bill’s Dining Car is an all-day breakfast and lunch classic diner that opened in 2017, adding a food truck and patio with outdoor seating in 2018. The restaurant features biscuits and gravy, hash brown platters and omelets for breakfast alongside patty melts, burgers and more for lunch.

3. The Walnut – 1417 Walnut St., Des Moines, Iowa

New in 2019

St. Kilda Surf + Turf

The owners of DSM’s Australian-style café and bakery, St. Kilda Café & Bakery, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, specializing in healthy, modern dishes, will introduce St. Kilda Surf + Turf into the Downtown DSM dining scene in the spring of 2019. The new location in the Historic East Village will serve fish and chips, souvlaki, salads and more.

1717 Brewing Co.

Three brothers started 1717 Brewing Co. as a tribute to their family. Jerry, Phil and Matt offer a variety of beers as well as a podcast where they discuss their brewing history, brewing equipment, naming beers and more.

Teddy Maroon’s

Teddy Maroon’s, a pub-style restaurant on Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines, is located just outside Downtown DSM, but we had to mention it. Opened in 2018, the restaurant is owned by the creators of downtown favorite Bubba.
