Downtown Farmers’ Market

Saturday, July 1 | Historic Court District
Every Saturday morning, May through October, find hidden gems at Des Moines’ Downtown Farmers’ Market! Did you know The Market’s Spark DSM Business Incubator supports small and/or startup businesses onsite each week? This Saturday, visit vendors including Bake Girl Bake, Najah Grocery & Deli and Sensiil Studios and as part of the incubator to explore what these new-to-the-market vendors have to offer. Additionally, you can browse the full list of vendors and see what’s happening at The Market this week, as well!

  • Yoga in Downtown DSM: You down, dog? Here’s a look at several places you can get your namaste on this week:
    Saturday, July 1 – Yoga in the Park, 9 – 10 a.m. at Gray’s Lake (Free)
  • Sunday, July 2 – Yoga on Cowles Commons, 9 – 10 a.m. (Free)
  • Monday, July 3 – Yoga at Wellmark YMCA, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. (Free for Members; day-passes also available)

Stars & Stripes & Sousa: Music Under the Stars

You won’t want to miss the patriotic sounds of the Des Moines Metro Concert Band and Big Band as part of this week’s installment of Music Under the Stars, with music director and conductor Vince Kenney. The program includes songs like the “Armed Forces Salute,” “Stars & Stripes Forever,” “The Star-Spangled Banner” and more. Don your favorite red, white and blue garb, pack a lawn chair and join in the festivities at this free and family-friendly outdoor concert to kick off your holiday week.

Yankee Doodle Pops

Monday, July 3 | Iowa State Capitol
Iowa’s largest one-day concert and a beloved DSM tradition is back for its 29th year! Enjoy patriotic music provided by the Des Moines Symphony and guest singer LaKisha Jones from “American Idol.” Bring your lawn chair or a picnic blanket and refreshments, or plan to purchase food on-site from several local food trucks and vendors nearby. The evening will wrap up with fireworks with the Downtown DSM skyline as a beautiful backdrop!

Iowa Cubs vs. St. Paul

Tuesday, July 4 – Sunday, July 9 | Principal Park
This six-game stretch against the St. Paul Saints, the affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, kicks off on Independence Day! Following the game on the 4th of July, attendees will join in with oohs and aahs throughout a special Wednesday night fireworks display lighting up the skies over Downtown DSM.
