Downtown Des Moines (DSM) is abuzz with lots to exciting things to do over the next week. Here’s a look at five buzz-worthy events coming up that you’ve just got to experience for yourself!    

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Concert 

Friday, Jan. 27 & Saturday, Jan. 28 | Des Moines Civic Center 
Immerse in the wizardry of the magical world of Harry Potter on the big screen as accompanied by the Des Moines Symphony as they perform Patrick Doyle’s iconic score live. Maestro Joseph Guinta conducts the Symphony beneath the high-definition backdrop of dragon fighting, merpeople, spell casting and much more excitement. 

Indulge: A Wine, Cheese & Chocolate Affair 

Friday, Jan. 27 & Saturday, Jan. 28 | West End Architectural Salvage 
Choose between two nights of indulgent wine, chocolate and cheese when you register for this 14th annual event! Browse the expansive collection of salvaged finds at West End while listening to live music by Mike Aceto and Jenna Huston. Craft cocktails will be available on-site as well, featuring Templeton Rye and Corralejo Tequila. 

Miss Gay Iowa USofA Pageant 

Saturday, Jan. 28 | Temple Theater 
Celebrate the 34th year of the crowning of Miss Gay Iowa. The evening will feature a cameo by Miss Gay USofA, Tonica Cavalli, and an appearance by national top 12 Miss Gay finalist, Destiny Michelle. Iowa’s crowned winner will go on to represent the state on the national stage in a competition taking place in Dallas, TX.  

RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party 

Saturday, Jan. 28 | Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center 
Be among the first to know what eight towns will host overnight stops of the 50th anniversary of the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) in 2023! Enjoy live music by The Pork Tornados, heavy appetizers, drinks, silent auction, prizes and more fun perfectly curated for biking enthusiasts. 

Spirits Class: Tequila 

Thursday, Feb. 2 | Splash Seafood Bar & Grill 
Join mixologist Rex Schulze to learn about the spirits of Mexico, including tequila and mezcal. Classes run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and attendees can choose to stay for dinner at Splash after the class for a 15% exclusive discount on their bill.
