Don’t miss out on these once-a-year events coming to Downtown Des Moines (DSM) this week, including a cultural food and music festival, women’s half marathon, streetstyle skating and more! Come experience these events before they’re gone. It’s gonna be epic!

1. World Food & Music Festival
   Friday, Sept. 16 – Sunday, Sept. 18 | Western Gateway Park
   This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, explore the World Food & Music Festival in Downtown Des Moines! Enjoy dozens of food vendors representing 27 countries, plus $1 samples, live music, cultural entertainment, cooking demonstrations, beer, wine, craft cocktails and more! Admission is free. It’s three days of delicious eats, incredible tunes and global sights.

2. John Denver Tribute Concert Starring Jim Curry
   Friday, Sept. 16 | Des Moines Heritage Center
   The country’s top performer of John Denver music will grace DSM with his presence for one night only. You’ll hear favorite songs such as “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Sunshine On My Shoulders” and more. Tickets will benefit the Des Moines Heritage Trust’s mission to promote historic preservation in DSM.

3. Disney Junior Live on Tour: Costume Palooza
   Saturday, Sept. 17 | Des Moines Civic Center
   Cue the excitement from DSM kiddos! Come see Disney Junior favorite characters including Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Doc McStuffins, Alice, Puppy Dog Pals and Spidey, too! Costumes are encouraged for all.

4. Greater Des Moines Women’s Half Marathon & 5K
   Sunday, Sept. 18 | 4th & Court Avenue
   Make it an ultimate girls’ weekend and cheer on your favorite runner at this event as part of the Hy-Vee Women’s Running Series. Female runners and walkers will take on either a half marathon or 5k, and the Hy-Vee KidsFit One Mile Fun Run is open to children ages five to 15. The energy will be contagious as you root for the athletes with Downtown DSM as a beautiful backdrop.

5. Des Moines Streetstyle Open
   Thursday, Sept. 22 – Saturday, Sept. 24 | Lauridsen Skatepark & Other Locations
   Watch the action as skaters from around the world take on this streetstyle competition in Downtown DSM. Food trucks and beverages will be available on-site, plus after parties are planned each night of the Open. You won’t want to miss this fun event!
