SALEM by Ballet Des Moines

Thursday – Saturday, Oct. 20-22 & 27-29  |  Stoner Theater 
The ballet dance troupe will perform the world premiere of Tom Mattingly’s SALEM, an immersive exploration of Massachusetts’ famed witch trials, including the girl, the preacher and the accused. This production explores the “horrific consequences of mistaking the different for the dangerous.”

Des Moines Storytellers Project: Obsessions

The Storytellers Project is an event series featuring your local neighbors, friends and notables sharing true, first-person narratives aligned with a shared theme. The stories highlighted on stage have been coached by and curated from Des Moines Register journalists. The October theme will explore the local storytellers’ unabashed passions.

Architecture in Iowa Communities

Thursday, Oct. 27 | Iowa Center for Architecture
You’re invited to learn about the current construction of the new United States Southern District of Iowa’s Courthouse in Downtown DSM. Attendees will hear from two architecture firms from the project — MSME and Neumann Monson — followed by a walking tour led by the Iowa Architecture Foundation. The culmination of the evening will feature a reception with food and drinks, and a panel opportunity to “Ask an Architect.”

Iowa Latino Gala

Thursday, Oct. 27 | Des Moines Heritage Center
This inaugural event will celebrate Latino culture, food, music, language and people. Additionally, the event will unveil the new Hola Center in Des Moines — a joint project of the Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs, Iowa Latino Alliance, Iowa Spanish Helpline, Latino Service Providers Coalition and other Latino leaders from across the state of Iowa.
