Supporting and showing love for the Downtown Des Moines community on 515 Day can be a fun way to celebrate where you live, work and play. Grab a few friends for after-work drinks or stop in at a local shop in the Historic East Village or other downtown neighborhood on Wednesday, May 15 to be a part of the festivities.

Restaurants in Downtown Des Moines

• Chelsie's Courtyard Diner – Now open at 300 MLK, Chelsie’s has breakfast dishes and entrées like Chicken Pot Pie or Cajun Pork Chops. Open Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
• HoQtail - Find seasonal and signature cocktails paired with a FREE  HoQ small bite when you visit HoQtail in the Historic East Village.
• RRACKSS Fine BBQ & Bistro – The Market District boasts some fine bbq like the Smoked Briskit Dinner and the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Open Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
• Tupelo Honey – The Bourbon Peppercorn Glazed Meatloaf or Tupelo Shrimp & Grits (GF) will fill you up, while specialty cocktails include the Des Moiselles, a tart and sweet daquiri, or the Spring City Soother, a local take on a traditional Penicillin. Open Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
• Singlespeed Brewery – Enjoy the outdoor patio at Singlespeed, where you can order from the taproom, located right off the bike trail. Open Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
• Zavy Kitchen – Try the Vermicelli Bowl, House Special or Savory Sticky Rice at Zavy in the Historic East Village. Open Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
• ZaZas Pizzeria – This new pizza destination will be located in Historic Court District formerly home to Java Joe’s. Stay tuned for more information once the doors open.

Shops in Downtown Des Moines

• Bespoke Custom Clothing – The Historic East Village is home to Bespoke Custom Clothing’s fifth location. Open Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. (Schedule an appointment.)
• The Little Book – Just outside of downtown, visit The Little Book, which held its grand opening in February. The children's bookstore is located in Highland Park and will offer instrument flights each month this summer. Don't forget to stop in Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 during Central Iowa Independent Bookstore Day celebrations.
