Black History Month Scavenger Hunts for Kids

Now – Saturday, Feb. 25 | Central Library
As February comes to a close, be sure to check out the family-friendly scavenger hunts taking place at the Des Moines Public Library’s Central Library in observance of Black History Month. Kids will learn about influential figures in Black history during this interactive activity taking place in the children’s area of the library.

Pride Night with the Iowa Wild

Friday, Feb. 24 | Wells Fargo Arena
The Iowa Wild are taking on the Rockford Icehogs in Downtown DSM this week! As part of Pride Night, the first 1,500 fans will receive an Iowa Wild pride scarf presented by KISS 107.5 and Capital City Pride. Drink specials and additional special programming will make this a fun-filled night cheering on the home team!

Ballet Des Moines Presents: Balanchine+

Friday, Feb. 24 – Saturday, Feb. 25 | Hoyt Sherman Place
Ballet Des Moines dancers will perform Who Cares?, a classic work created by the infamous George Balanchine. Balanchine, the Russian-born New York City Ballet co-founder, created 400+ works while serving as the New York City Ballet’s artistic director and primary choreographer. The Ballet Des Moines performance will be set to timeless music by American composer George Gershwin.

Des Moines’ Coldest Night of the Year 5k

Saturday, Feb. 25 | Beginning at Fleet Feet
Join the Central Iowa Shelter and Services (CISS) at this annual event to help raise awareness and advocate for people in the community experiencing homelessness, hurt or hunger. Following the 5k walk through Downtown DSM, a light meal will be served. Registration is free, with opportunities to fundraise and donate to the CISS mission to provide low-barrier shelter, meals and support services at no cost to adults experiencing homelessness and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency.

Spirits Class: Irish Whiskey

Thursday, March 2 | Splash Seafood Bar & Grill
Explore whiskey’s birthplace and sample a wide palate of whiskeys. The class will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and those who wish to stay for dinner following the class will receive a discount. Cost is $60 per person with limited seats — secure your spot today!
