Grind for Life Series

Saturday, May 13 | Lauridsen Skatepark
Stop by to see incredible skaters of all ages and skill levels hailing from around the U.S. to compete in street and bowl skateboarding in Downtown DSM. This event benefits the Grind for Life Organization, a nonprofit that assists cancer patients with travel expenses.

African Fan Dance Workshop

Saturday, May 13 | Mainframe Studios
Come join the movement with Gateway Dance Theater! This week’s dance workshop taught by Seygbai Kai will share African fan dance choreography. Get ready to try something new, and no prior dance experience is necessary! Additional upcoming dance workshops include Bhangra, Bolly-Kathak and Indian styles taught by local artists.

Symphony Season Finale: Giunta Conducts Rachmaninoff

Saturday, May 13 – Sunday, May 14 | Des Moines Civic Center
One of classical music’s highly lauded new-to-the-scene artists, Gabriela Martinez, will play Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto in a symphonic celebration conducted by the Des Moines Symphony’s own music director and conductor, Joseph Guinta. You won’t regret joining in the final hurrah of the Des Moines Symphony’s season!

Wednesday, May 17 | Outside of Principal (High Street, from 7th to 9th Streets)
The very first Out to Lunch event of the summer takes place this week! Local musician Sharane Calister will bring the vibes while you snag lunch from one of several local food trucks, with selections including Karam’s Grill, Top Bun, Ninas Tacos, Bearded Jackal Street Food, Fruits N’ Such, What the Fries DSM, The Big Red Food Truck, Caribbean Kitchen, Jambo African Cuisine and Donut NV.
