Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families Employees: Striving to Be Better Than the Day Before

Evelyn K. Davis Center (EKDC) for Working Families has been recognized as a 2022 Inclusion Award winner by the Greater Des Moines Partnership for championing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Inclusion Award winners were selected by a committee of Inclusion Council members and Partnership team members and recognized during the 10th annual Inclusion Summit.

EKDC won in the first-ever-awarded “Nonprofit” category at the Summit, held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the FFA Enrichment Center at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus. The Summit’s theme — Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: It Makes Dollars and Sense — gave Greater Des Moines (DSM) attendees the opportunity to learn more about what equity means, discover tools and resources to build equity-centered practices and honor the Inclusion Award winners of 2022. The schedule included keynotes on why equity requires transformative thinking and mindset change as well as leveraging marginalized workers in today’s economy.

Meeting People Where They Are

The EKDC team reflects the community they serve. When clients make a connection with the team, they know they’ll be treated equitably and are more comfortable with moving forward with the services they need because they’re working with people who look like them. Through conversations with team members, clients see barriers removed and needs met, allowing EKDC employees to better serve more than 7,000 individuals within the community. Many current EKDC employees are made up of former clients.

To qualify for the Inclusion Award, businesses must be a Partnership Member or Investor.
