International Women's Day

Young Professionals Connection International Womens Day

YPC International Womens Day

I had a chance to celebrate the International Women’s Day with YPC Diversity & Culture Committee on March 8. To mark the outstanding contributions of women in our society, around 20 YPC members gathered at Irina’s Restaurant in Urbandale to recognize the amazing women in our lives and the inspirational impact that they have had on us as individuals.

About the Event

As we feasted, Diversity Committee members shared their knowledge about the holiday. We learned that although it originated as a political statement for equality and recognition in some socialist countries, it is more often celebrated in modern times as an amalgamation of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day in Eastern Europe and the countries that formerly made up the Soviet Union.  In other countries, it may be a day to promote women’s rights and world peace.

YPC Irinas Dinner

An amazing dinner from Irina’s menu was followed by each woman in attendance receiving three roses as a gift of admiration. The night was an excellent opportunity to socialize, to learn, but most of all celebrate the diversity that the ladies in our lives provide. The evening concluded with carrot and chocolate cake, compliments of Irina’s, and an added appreciation of all that women contribute to our society.
