Downtown Farmers' Market Virtual Market Meet-Up: Week 2 in Review

The second Downtown Farmers’ Market Virtual Market Meet-Up took place Saturday, May 9. Downtown Farmers’ Market Director Kelly Foss interviewed Market vendors and introduced entertainment acts via Zoom and previously recorded videos, as well as live in the studio.

Vendor Spotlights

This week’s Virtual Market Meet-Up included interviews with Ben Saunders of Wabi Sabi and Ethan Book with Crooked Gap Farm. Other vendors highlighted in the first half of the event included Lost Lake Farm, Penoach Winery and a balloon artist, Professor Von Air.

The second half of the show included guest spotlights from The Knotty Nail, Watson & Wallie Dog Treats, UnityPoint Health Des Moines, Austin Johnson of Cheers Ink, Iowa Food Cooperative, Fritz Toffee, Meals From The Market, Rinehart’s Family Farm, Lola’s Fine Hot Sauce and Stam Greenhouse.

Suman Hoque, chef and owner of HoQ Restaurant in the Historic East Village in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) also joined Kelly live in the studio to make a breakfast wrap using local ingredients.

Entertainment

The day’s musical entertainment was provided by Royce Johns. Royce Johns is a country music artist, hailing from Polk City, Iowa, and plays his music across the Midwest. He recorded his first EP in Boone, Iowa and has been covered by the Des Moines Register.

Mother’s Day Giveaway

After receiving video submissions on “Why Mothers are so Great” throughout the week of May 4-8, two winners were announced during the Virtual Market Meet-Up. Taylor Yocom and her mother Kate and Robby and Jacob Tometich and their mother Kayleen each won a Mother’s Day gift basket full of goodies from Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses.
