Leading in Times of Challenge with Tony Dickinson

Tony Dickinson is president of NCMIC Finance Corporation. Previously, he worked at Wells Fargo and has 15 years of experience within the finance industry and the youngest district manager at the Radio Shack Corporation. Within the DSM community, Tony has been involved with the board of the Boys and Girls Club, the Iowa Sports Foundation and the alumni board at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.

The Power of Your Network

While going to school full-time and running a Radio Shack location, Tony learned the importance of delegation and working as a team. He says there were times he wasn’t a great leader or student, but through those errors Tony learned how not to make the same mistake twice. Once he graduated from Mount Mercy, he soon got into the banking world and had to navigate the 2008 financial crisis. During that time, he realized the power of his network. He spent a lot of time speaking with other leaders and business owners about challenging times. Those conversations gave him insight into what leading really meant: that leaders didn’t have all the answers, but by pulling together and working as a team, you could get through the difficult times.
