St. Vincent de Paul is keeping busy creating opportunities through employment support programming and events. Here are the latest offerings to help connect and improve individuals' employability and assist in connecting people with positions at Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses and organizations.

St. Vincent de Paul News

  • St. Vincent de Paul is holding a Career Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.: The event will be held at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave. in Des Moines. More than 20 employers and community-based organizations will be on hand. See the flyer for a current list of participating organizations.
  • Education Center: The St. Vincent de Paul Education Center located on the second floor of 1426 Sixth Ave. in Des Moines offers free computer use to community members during specific hours. See the calendar for the February 2026 availability.
  • Caring Hands: Stop by Caring Hands (602 3rd Street, SW in Altoona) and meet with a Community Navigator from St. Vincent de Paul. You can take the DOT driver's license Knowledge Test, learn about employment opportunities and get assistance with SNAP applications, etc. See the flyer for more information.
  • The Back 2 Work Course offers tailored support for individuals re-entering the workforce or transitioning to a new career. This six-day program covers job-readiness training, developing healthy relationships at home and in the workplace, financial literacy, and mock interview practice. Each participant is paired with a dedicated mentor who provides continued guidance after the class.   • Jumpstart Your Future in Food Service – a ServSafe® Certified Food Protection Manager course designed specifically for English Language Learners (ELLs).
    • This six-week program is ideal for job seekers interested in starting or advancing a career in the food service industry. Participants will complete the ServSafe® Certified Food Protection Manager course, enhanced with built-in English language activities and academic support spread over six weeks. The course is designed to help learners strengthen their English, build technical food safety vocabulary and develop the skills needed to successfully pass the ServSafe® exam and move forward in their career goals.
