Here are the latest offerings to help connect and improve individuals' employability and assist in connecting people with positions at Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses and organizations.

St. Vincent de Paul News

  • Education Center: The St. Vincent de Paul Education Center, located on the second floor of 1426 Sixth Ave. in Des Moines, offers free computer use to community members during specific hours. The March calendar for open computer lab time will be provided soon.
  • The Back 2 Work Course offers tailored support for individuals re-entering the workforce or transitioning to a new career. This six-day program covers job-readiness training, developing healthy relationships at home and in the workplace, financial literacy and mock interview practice. Upcoming Hiring Events

  • Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.Rasmussen Group will be holding a hiring event at Corporate Headquarters, 5550 NE 22nd St. in Des Moines, that will consist of on-the-spot interviews for motivated candidates looking to start or advance a career in construction, including asphalt laborers, ready mix drivers and dump truck drivers.   • Wednesday, March 18 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Arcosa will be holding a hiring event a Corporate Headquarters, 801 N. 19th St. E. in Newton, that will consist of on-the-spot interviews for welders, welder managers, safety coordinator, maintenance technician and more! Welding tests will be conducted on the spot. Candidates for welding positions should dress accordingly (steel toe boots, jeans, etc.).
  • Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.: Iowa Wild is holding a career fair at the Casey's Center (233 Center St. in Des Moines). Attendees will receive one free ticket for the Iowa Wild game at 7 p.m. that night! See the flyer for more details.

  • 2026 Statewide Resource Expo: This free public event showcases a variety of exhibitors who provide services across the state of Iowa. This event will take place Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave. in Des Moines. See the flyer for more information.
  • Ride United is a pilot program from United Way of Central Iowa designed to temporarily bridge transportation gaps. Call 211 and request transportation for essential services such as health appointments, employment, housing and more. Identify that you are with the Ride United Central Iowa program. 211 asks for personal information to better understand the caller's unique situation and to ensure the most appropriate resources are provided. Translation and accessibility services are available. Please call 30-60 minutes before the desired pickup time.
