Mercy ranks 14th as a "Social Media Friendly" hospital

October 8, 2014

Mercy Medical Center — Des Moines ranks among the nation’s best hospitals in the use of social media, according to a rating by NurseJournal.org.

The nursing publication evaluated more than 800 hospitals using statistics provided by two of the most used social media outlets, Facebook and Twitter. Reviewers looked for hospitals that do the best job of interacting via social media with patients and the communities the hospitals serve.

“Today Mercy was liked by its 20,000th fan on Facebook— that’s a major accomplishment held by few organizations, especially in health care,” said Mercy President Bob Ritz. “The new national ranking and Facebook fan base are milestones that highlight the growing importance of maintaining good communications between the medical community and the patients and guests we serve. Mercy will continue to use innovative methods of offering the public the best level of understanding of the Mercy Experience and providing answers regarding the care they receive. This is a wonderful honor for the Mercy Family and our Public Relations and Marketing team, who manages our social media communications.”
