Hybrid DSM Intern Connection Participants Complete 2021 Program

2021 DSM Intern Connection

August 19, 2021

The Greater Des Moines Partnership’s summer intern programming series, DSM Intern Connection, returned for the 2021 summer in a hybrid format. The decision to offer both virtual and in-person sessions accommodated interns working for companies across Greater Des Moines (DSM) in both virtual and in-person formats. The series, formerly known as Seize the City, was designed to provide free professional development skills, networking opportunities and to connect interns with each other and members of the DSM community.

DSM Intern Connection Programming

More than 100 students participated in at least one of DSM Intern Connection’s summer sessions. Four programming sessions were offered, covering topics ranging from enneagram exploration, personal finance and mental health, as well as a young professionals panel focused on living and working in the region. These four sessions were hosted virtually to allow students to join from their workplace, regardless of whether they were working from home or in an office space.

In addition to the programming sessions, three in-person opportunities were hosted to introduce students to DSM. For these sessions, students attended an Iowa Cubs game at Principal Park, volunteered to set up the Des Moines Art Festival® and toured the Des Moines Art Center to experience the Justin Favela exhibit.

Students who attend at least three sessions receive a Community Leadership Certificate. The certificate indicates students have participated in community building activities as well as opportunities to grow their personal and professional development skills through speakers and group activities. Of the 2021 DSM Intern Connection participants, 70 students earned the Leadership Certificate, along with a box of DSM swag. Interested in participating next year?
