How We YPC - Giving Back!

On March 24, 29 YPC members partnered with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) for a build day. We had such a great response from our members, we had to ask for additional volunteer spots (thanks to Tyler Price, volunteer coordinator with HYP, for making the additional space). We were spread over two locations with one crew at the build site and the other at the Habitat Restore. At the build site, the crew spent their day priming and painting. At the warehouse, the crew helped build sheds and clean the grounds. Be sure to check out the photos from the day.

A primary focus of the Volunteer Committee in 2012 has been to have a greater impact with local nonprofits. In February, we partnered with Hawthorn Hill for a Fleece Blanket Drive.  Thanks to an excellent turnout we were able to make over 50 fleece blankets for families. Why I Volunteer with YPC

Personally, I got involved in the Volunteer Committee because I think it is important as a young professional to spend time giving back.  The community is at a bit of a crossroads; the volunteer community is getting older and is looking to the next generation. We have a tremendous opportunity to shape and focus what the future of Des Moines will be and it is really up to us to make it what we want. Over the past year I have had many wonderful opportunities to impact both the community and the world.  I’m really excited with the growth of the charitable component of YPC and encourage everybody to get involved by attending a meeting or an event.
