This Sweet and Savory Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich is Perfect for Fall
Perfect for fall, this sweet and savory grilled ham and cheese sandwich incorporates apple butter and herb bread. They are great on their own but can be easily paired with soup.
When you are at the Downtown Farmers’ Market you need to buy half a pound of sliced sandwich ham ($6) from Lucky George Farm, two wedges of Camembert ($10) from Lost Lakes Farm, a loaf of rosemary focaccia ($5) from Uncle Wendell’s and a jar of apple butter ($7) from Barb’s Garden and Pantry. Once you have all the ingredients at home, the sandwiches go together very quickly.
The finished sandwiches have a wonderful blend of sweet (from the apple butter) and savory (from the ham and cheese).
Dish: Sweet and Savory Grilled Ham and Cheese
Time: 15 minutes
1/2 pound sliced sandwich ham from Lucky George Farm
1 loaf rosemary focaccia from Uncle Wendell’s
2 wedges Camembert from Lost Lakes Farm
1 jar apple butter from Barb’s Garden and Pantry
2 -3 tbsp. butter
Cut the bread into 10 half-inch slices. Spread apple butter on each slice. Slice the Camembert and put the cheese on five slices of bread. Then add ham and cover with one of the slices of bread that only has apple butter.
Spread butter on the outside of the top slice of bread on each sandwich.
Melt about one tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is melted put the sandwiches (you may need to grill them in batches) butter side down in the skillet. Spread butter on the slice of bread that is now on top of the sandwich. Cook for two to three minutes then flip and cook for another two to three minutes.
