For More Than 30 Years, This Vendor has Been Bringing the Taste of Fall to The Farmers' Market

Williams and Sons Orchard at the DTFM

Williams and Sons Orchard out of Runnells has been a regular feature of the Downtown Farmers’ Market for roughly 35 years. Les and Cheryl Williams now run the orchard that was started by Les’ grandfather in the 1920s. Throughout the years, his parents have run the orchard as well as his siblings.

At the orchard’s peak there were around 2,000 apple trees.

They sell many varieties of apples at The Market including Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fortune, Cheiftans, Connell Red and Winesap, which will be available through to the end of the season. You can also purchase apple cider at their booth. They have many sizes, from a single serving to a gallon. The cost of their products starts at $2.

Les and Cheryl remember being vendors at The Market back when it was held in the parking lot of Spaghetti Works in the Historic Court District. In the three-plus decades they’ve been at The Market, they say it’s the best Markets they have ever been to. They have enjoyed seeing people’s children grow up through the years.

One of Les’ favorite memories of The Market is when CBS News was shooting some promotional videos and they asked him to say, “I wake up to CBS News This Morning” and he had the hardest time saying it. He said people were all around him laughing and it was somewhat embarrassing but now it’s a great story.

You can find Williams and Sons Orchard every week through the end of The Market season at the corner of Second Avenue and Court Avenue.
