Foster Group on the Des Moines Corporate Games Winning Platform
At Foster Group, we pride ourselves on a great company culture. How you define company culture will be different based on the person and what they personally look for in a workplace. For me, it’s enjoying your role, believing in what your company does and wanting to spend time with your co-workers outside of the 9 to 5.
Employee Participation
The Des Moines Corporate Games has allowed us the opportunity and platform to build into our work relationships, create memories and get to know others within the company and community that we otherwise would not. With a little “encouraging peer pressure,” internal hype and a natural competitive nature, we boast an 85% workforce participation in at least one event over the last two years. That should tell you how much we enjoy each other and the games.
I like to tell our team that there is something for everyone. I truly believe there is! A good mix of competitive events like basketball, bags and track and field, are well balanced with fun and non-athletic events like trivia, walks and tracking water consumption. There are also good opportunities to compete in team events, or solo ones, in-person or virtual.
I have never been a great athlete, but if I had a prime, I’d be way past it. That doesn’t stop me or others from participating. The events are set up so you compete with firms of a similar size and often within age brackets and genders as well. If there is an event that sounds like fun, you are willing to put yourself out there and have amazing co-workers you should give it a try — you won’t regret it. We encourage each other to just do it. Win or lose — it doesn’t matter. We value participation and time together over winning.
As a company admin, it is a lot of work, but it is worth every amount of effort put in. Once you get your firm hooked and excited, you will enjoy seeing and spending time together outside of work. Do it for fun and try something new.
