Mercy - Des Moines Selects Linda Goodwin as New Chief Nursing Executive and Chief Operations Officer

Linda GoodwinDES MOINES, Iowa — Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines’ Board of Directors and Leadership Council announce the selection of Linda Goodwin, MSN, MBA, FACHE, to serve as Mercy’s chief operations officer (COO) and chief nursing executive (CNE). In her CNE role, Linda will lead nursing on all Mercy Des Moines’ campuses, including Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines, West Lakes, Centerville and Skiff in Newton.

Goodwin presently serves as regional group chief nursing officer for Centura Health System’s Mountain North Denver Region. The newly created dual position at Mercy will include oversight of nursing quality, safety and service outcomes, along with Mercy’s daily operations.

“Linda’s leadership skills and experience in an integrated health system setting make her uniquely qualified to serve as CNE and COO,” said Mercy President Karl Keeler. “Linda has distinguished herself as an innovative and collaborative leader, and I am confident she will help provide a remarkable experience for our patients and families.”

At Centura, in addition to providing regional executive nursing leadership for six hospitals — including a Level One trauma center in Denver — she also serves as the administrative leader for multiple clinical services.

Among Goodwin’s accomplishments at Centura are integration of a new IT platform, improving patient experience ranking and implementing a new educational system for front line nursing managers.

Centura Health System provided Goodwin with experience working in an integrated health system, which is similar to Mercy Health Network (MHN). Mercy’s sponsoring organization, Catholic Health Initiatives, co-sponsors MHN and is a co-sponsor of Centura.

Goodwin will join Mercy on June 1, 2018.
