Charles Keller, M.D., Appointed Chief Medical Officer

DES MOINES, Iowa­ — Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Keller, M.D., as chief medical officer (CMO) – a position he has held on an interim basis since October 2017. The appointment is effective immediately.

Charles Keller HeadshotDr. Keller, who joined Mercy in 2012, will oversee clinical operations for the complete medical staff, including all physicians, providers, and allied professionals. His focus will remain on developing initiatives designed to improve physician engagement, patient satisfaction, safety and overall clinical quality. As CMO, Dr. Keller will also oversee five residency programs including: family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery, and starting July 1, psychiatry.     

“Dr. Keller is an engaging and innovative physician leader,” says Mercy President Karl Keeler, “His assistance with the planning and opening of four new ambulatory clinics in 2017 and the introduction of sports medicine services in Ankeny provided continued growth of Mercy Clinics. By listening to our patients, he co-sponsored the development of Access 2 Health, an innovative service to support patient access, ease transitions of care and improve preventive care service scheduling. This type of forward-thinking will help assure the highest quality of care for all patients we serve.”
