Q&A

What do you do? VP, Sales — Iowa Wild. Create memorable experiences for individuals, as well as long lasting community and corporate partnerships, all through the sport of hockey.

What’s a day in your job like? One of the benefits of working in sports is that my “office” is typically an arena of ballpark! Game days are awesome as I get to engage with our loyal fan base, while viewing some of the hockey action. On non-game days is when the real magic happens. I oversee one of the best staffs in professional sports, whose daily initiatives include creating corporate partnerships, matching invidious with ticket plans, fundraising for non-profits, and attending community events, throughout the Great Des Moines (DSM).

What are your passions outside of work? When you’re not at work, what will we find you doing? I’m very passionate about working with children and sports. Over the past year I have begun playing adult hockey through DMAHA. I also really enjoying coaching and currently I coach lacrosse through West Des Moines YMCA.

Where’s your favorite (something) in Des Moines? My wife and I often enjoy a night out at Flix Brewhouse. We enjoy date night at the movie, and they also have great food, beer, and comfy chairs!

What role has mentorship played in your career? Mentorship has been extremely important in the development of my career. From the early stages of my career I have taken some of the insight and advice of all my past mentors to get me where I am today. In a more senior role of the past few years, I try to connect with my colleagues to challenge them, and myself, to grow on a personal and professional level.

What are your words to live by? “Good is not good, when better is expected” — LA Dodgers broadcaster, Vin Scully. This quote has provided me with personal motivation to continue to strive to be at my very best, in everything that I do.

What projects have you been involved with in YPC? I’ve had the pleasure to work with many individuals in YPC on a professional level through my work with the Iowa Wild. This included the event planning of the 2016 YPC Kickoff Event. Over the past few months I’ve taken a much more active role in events, specifically with Athletics and Social. I’m very excited to do even more with YPC this year and for years to come!
