Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Celebrating 125 Years
Help the Greater Des Moines Partnership celebrate 125 years of Economic Development in Greater Des Moines (DSM) with the launch of the commemorative book titled, “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.” The book documents the historic foundation of the Partnership, the community’s signature accomplishments, and the people who made them happen, as well as look to what the future holds. It is sure to make this landmark anniversary a reason for the entire community to celebrate.
The book was written by Dave Elbert and produced in partnership with the Business Record and the Iowa History Center at Simpson College. This event is part of the Wonder of Words Festival. The mission of the Wonder of Words Festival is to connect readers, writers and publishers at events that celebrate reading and share the joy of lifelong learning.
There will be a celebratory launch event on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Temple of Performing Arts in Downtown DSM. During the event, the Partnership will honor past chairs and hear from Chris Meade. Meade is the senior vice president at the American Chamber of Commerce Executives and is the author of a soon to published book titled, "Magicians of Main Street: The History of Chambers of Commerce in America."
