Partnership Announces 'Extend the Season' Grant for Restaurants

October 7, 2020

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020) — To help extend the outdoor dining season in Greater Des Moines (DSM), the Greater Des Moines Partnership is proud to announce the Extend the Season grant. This grant will support DSM restaurants by providing outdoor heating equipment for their existing outdoor seating. Extending the season gives residents additional reasons to continue dining out — or in — safely, and helps support restaurants.

This grant is open to Members of Greater Des Moines Partnership and its 24 Affiliate Chambers of Commerce. Grantees will receive actual equipment and will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis. Applications will be open until Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 a.m. or until funds are depleted.

“As we enter into the fall and approach winter, it is important for our mental health to get outside and important for our community’s health to continue to support local businesses in a safe manner,” said Meg Schneider, Senior Vice President of Business Resources and Community Development at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “We encourage local restaurants to provide cold weather-friendly outdoor options when possible and residents to ‘BYOB,’ or ‘bring your own blanket,’ to enjoy outdoor seating.”

The grant was made possible by the following list of funders through the Small Business Recovery Grant Program: Principal Foundation, EMC Insurance Companies, American Equity Life Insurance Company, Delta Dental of Iowa, Meredith Corporation, Nationwide, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa, Wells Fargo Foundation, Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Fidelity & Guaranty Life, IMT Insurance, Bankers Trust, Kemin Industries, Inc., NCMIC Group, Inc., Veridian Credit Union, Global Atlantic Financial Group, GuideOne Insurance, Merchants Bonding Company Foundation, Ruan Transportation Management Systems and Community Choice Credit Union.

This grant is part of ongoing work with the Polk County Disaster Recovery Partnership, Iowa Restaurant Association and Catch Des Moines to help encourage patronage at DSM restaurants.

Grant applications are now open. Restaurants that are Members of The Partnership can find an application form online.
