2014 Father Of The Year Awards Celebration To Honor Four Central Iowa Fathers

The American Diabetes Association and the Iowa Father’s Day Council will award four men for being outstanding role models for their children on June 12, 2014 at The Meadows Conference Center at Prairie Meadows. Reception begins at 5:30 p.m., Dinner and program begins at 6:30 p.m.

These fathers were selected based on their ability to balance their personal and professional lives, and serve as a role model for their children, while making a positive difference in their communities. All proceeds from the event will support the American Diabetes Association of Iowa and its mission: To prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all Iowans affected by diabetes.

“We are proud of these exceptional fathers who have demonstrated the ability to balance a high level of success in their chosen careers, and serve as great role models in our community,” read a statement from the Iowa Father’s Day Council, consisting of Co-Chairs Loretta Sieman, Joyce Steinkamp and Marcia Wanamaker. “They deserve recognition not only as fathers and community leaders, but for their commitment to help change the future of diabetes.”

Today, there are nearly 27 million Americans—including 225,000 in Iowa, who have diabetes. If present trends continue, one in three Iowans faces a future with diabetes by the year 2050.

The Iowa Chapter of the National Father’s Day Council is a volunteer organization that annually honors individuals who exemplify outstanding commitment to children, family and community.
