NCMIC Celebrates 75 Years with Growing DEI Efforts

NCMIC Inclusion Award

NCMIC has been recognized as a 2021 Inclusion Award winner by the Greater Des Moines Partnership for championing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout their business. Inclusion Award winners were selected by a committee of Inclusion Council members and Partnership team members.

NCMIC won in the Medium Organization category (151-500 employees) at the 9th Annual Inclusion Summit, held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the FFA Enrichment Center at the Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny Campus. The Summit’s theme — Equity in Action — gave attendees the opportunity to learn more about what equity means, discover tools and resources to build equity-centered practices and honor the four Inclusion Award winners of 2021.

75th Anniversary Marks NCMIC Commitment to DEI

Recently, NCMIC has demonstrated an intentional focus on DEI efforts. NCMIC CEO Mike McCoy was one of the first CEOs to sign the CEO Commitment to Racial Equity in DSM, a commitment to create equitable, inclusive and diverse workplaces and communities across the region. The organizations worked hard to keep employees engaged throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and offered resources for mental health and wellness, designed to keep employees involved in their work.

McCoy said while they are not experts in the space, they are passionate about an inclusive environment and are on a purposeful journey. He is proud that the workforce has never been more diverse in its 75 years in DSM. The Rotational Employment Program launched specifically for people of color in order to see every aspect of the company in three different rotations lasting five to six months, as well as receive mentorship from senior management.

To qualify for the Inclusion Award, businesses must be a Partnership Member or Investor.
