A Mouth-Watering Morning Meetup
Another Morning Meetup is in the books! The September morning get together was located at Crème Cupcake, located on 28th Street just north of Ingersoll. A diamond hidden in the rough as far as I can see, this local small business is located in an older but still up-and-coming neighborhood. Crème has an interior theme and layout that belongs in the big city with warm colors and fancy furniture.
YPC members were greeted at the door by owner/founder Christina Moffat, and waiting for us were fresh doughnuts and coffee. Around 10 YPC members/prospective members attended the event. The morning began around 7:30 a.m. as members and prospective members networked for 30-45 minutes. After meeting new people and connecting with friends, the owner began sharing her theory and story of success. Christina spoke for around 20 minutes, discussing her story and answering questions.
Small Business Success
What did we learn from this meeting? The answer: sometimes we all get surprised. Christina Moffat never planned on having her own fancy boutique featuring after hours drinks & desserts. She worked in the corporate world for several years; cupcake baking was just on the side. As the word spread about her tasty cupcakes, so did her success. One thing led to another, and after two years of hard work, she is out of the corporate world and focused full time on her business.
Des Moines has several small start-up businesses like Crème Cupcake. There are several people taking risks to discover their own dreams. These small start-up businesses prove beneficial to the entire community—we all reap the benefits from other’s successes. Crème Cupcake and Dessert is another success story and another opportunity for us realize that we all get surprised. She never planned on starting up a small business and staying local, but today she has developed a successful business in our very own backyard of Des Moines.
