Scenic Route Bakery to Open Second Location at Des Moines Social Club
Des Moines, IA (February 12, 2019) — Scenic Route Bakery will open a second location at the Des Moines Social Club, officials announced. The new location is expected to open in early May 2019. The menu will feature coffee and pastries, in addition to grab-and-go breakfast and lunch items. It will be located on the first floor of the Des Moines Social Club adjacent to the lobby and Viaduct Gallery.
Executive Director, Chuck Current shared, “The Social Club marks its tenth year in existence and fifth year at the Firehouse this May. We could not think of a better way to cap this celebration than partnering with the Scenic Route Bakery. We are excited about the vibrancy and culinary talent that SRB will bring to our spaces.”
The dream of Scenic Route Bakery was hatched about a decade ago by daughter/father team, Katy and Mark Nelson. Katy has a passion for pastry and graduated from the DMACC Culinary Institute and Chicago’s French Pastry School. Mark, who comes from an engineering and military background, dreamt of opening a business that honors people’s talents and skills and help grow them in their life journey. Seeing that his daughter also had these passions and dreams, they set out hand-in-hand to open a bakery business. The duo opened the Scenic Route Bakery’s original location in late 2014 in the Des Moines’ East Village, serving pastries, coffee and espresso drinks, soups, sandwiches, and other light fare for breakfast and lunch.
Scenic Route Bakery joins the Civic Music Association, HomeDitty and Malo as tenants on the 30,000 square foot campus. To learn more about the Scenic Route Bakery, visit scenicroutebakerydsm.com.
