Triple Espresso Returns to the Temple Theater

May 14, 2018

DES MOINES, IA — Des Moines Performing Arts is pleased to announce that Iowa’s longest running show, Triple Espresso — a highly caffeinated comedy, will return for its seventh engagement Nov. 16, 2018 through Jan. 13, 2019 at the Temple Theater. Single tickets to Triple Espresso will go on sale Monday, May 21 at 9 a.m. and can be purchased at DMPA.org, the Civic Center Ticket Office, or by phone at (515) 246-2300. Groups of 10 or more should call (515) 246-2340.

The Temple Theater first opened its doors to Triple Espresso in 2002. This audience favorite has become a tradition with its guaranteed-to-make-you-laugh story of three hopeful entertainers, Hugh Butternut, Buzz Maxwell, and Bobby Bean, whose bid for showbiz fame and fortune ended in four minutes of magnificent failure on national television. “Triple Espresso works like a comedy encyclopedia,” says the Sacramento Bee, and the Star Tribune agrees, “Hilarious and executed beautifully. The essence of comedy!”

Triple Espresso features some of the finest professional actors in the country. For the upcoming performances at the Temple Theater, Patrick Albanese will reprise his role as Buzz Maxwell, a less than convincing magician. John Bush will return as Bobby Bean, an all-over-the-map entertainer with big dreams. Paul Somers will round out the cast with his return as the affable lounge singer, Hugh Butternut.

Written by Minneapolis playwrights Bill Arnold, Michael Pearce Donley and Bob Stromberg and produced by The Daniel Group, Triple Espresso debuted in 1995 and has performed in over 50 cities in six countries, has been translated into three foreign languages and has played to over two million people. The show’s high-energy, vaudeville-inspired humor packed with music, magic, and monkey business appeals to all ages and backgrounds, making it a popular event for family, office and social groups — the perfect holiday entertainment!
