Des Moines attorney Mark E. Weinhardt of The Weinhardt Law Firm has been inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL), becoming one of only 500 Fellows from the United States, and 100 Fellows from more than 30 countries, under the age of 70, who are deemed to be the world’s most exceptional attorneys.

The Academy is open to civil and criminal trial lawyers from both the plaintiff’s and the defendant’s side of the counsel table and has rigorous admission standards. The selection process for each attorney takes more than a year to complete. Weinhardt’s nomination was reviewed by his peers, current members of the Academy, and by judges and justices before whom he has practiced.

“When you’re very, very good at what you do – like Mark is – it betters our legal system and those we serve,” said his nominator, James Wyrsch, president of Wyrsch Hobbs & Mirakian, P.C., a well-known trial attorney in complex civil and criminal litigation, and also a Fellow of the IATL.

“Mark Weinhardt has a sterling reputation as an attorney who is absolutely brilliant, ethical and highly-effective. I’ve seen him win huge victories that were only possible with a tremendous amount of preparation, the intellect to know how to apply the law to the facts, and the gift of authenticity that is so important to connecting with judges and juries.”

Weinhardt’s practice is evenly divided between complex business litigation and white collar criminal cases. Weinhardt is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, in addition to this most recent, 2017, induction into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected for membership in an organization that has so few members nationally and particularly so few Iowans,” shared Mark Weinhardt, founding partner of The Weinhardt Law Firm. “Advocacy has been my passion since I started competitive debating at age 14, and it is gratifying and humbling to be recognized among such pillars of the profession, including the other Iowans who are Fellows –  Lex Hawkins, Roxanne Conlin, and David L. Brown.”

Weinhardt has earned lengthy list of recognitions, including being one of only eight lawyers in Iowa listed as a “Band 1” commercial litigator by the International Chambers and Partners rating service; rated as one of the Top 10 attorneys in Iowa, regardless of practice area, every year since 2012 by The Thomson Reuters Business SuperLawyers rating service; listed in The Best Lawyers in America for bet-the-company litigation, commercial litigation, and white collar criminal defense; and named “Lawyer of the Year” for 2016 for bet-the-company litigation and for 2013 for white collar crime defense.  His peers  also selected him as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2011 and the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2005.

Mark Weinhardt, of The Weinhardt Law Firm in Des Moines, was recently inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, whose members are described as the most exceptional attorneys in the world.
