September 24, 2019

Des Moines, Iowa (September 24, 2019): The Des Moines International Airport announces the official launch of the INDECT parking guidance system today with the installation of a 60” x 90” full color matrix screen at the garage entry off Cowles Drive.

To elevate customer satisfaction, while increasing parking capacity through parking space utilization, the Des Moines International Airport installed a premier ultrasonic parking guidance system with 1398 individual sensors and 27 wayfinding signs throughout the parking garage.

“The signs in the garage are deliberately placed at each decision-point in the garage to expediate the parking process for travelers at the airport,” said Kevin Foley, Executive Director of the Des Moines Airport Authority. “We expanded the system to the outdoor economy lots to provide real-time parking availability for the entire airport.”

The LED RGB sensors are located above each parking spot in the garage and clearly identify each space as open (green), occupied (red) or handicapped (blue).

“One of the interesting things about Des Moines International Airport is that they are taking full advantage of the real-time data and analytics offered by the INDECT system” said Dale Fowler, President of INDECT USA.

The sensors provide highly reliable data which is shared with the public on the airport’s website www.FlyDSM.com showcasing real-time availability for the airport parking lots. Travelers can see how many parking spots are available in various lots to choose where they want to park before heading to the airport.

“We have already received positive feedback regarding the installation of the INDECT parking guidance system,” said Foley. “Drivers appreciate the convenience of spending less time searching for an available parking space.”

Des Moines International Airport joins a short list of US airports with the high-tech INDECT guidance system. The list includes Dallas Fort Worth, Dallas Love Field, Houston-Bush Intercontinental, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, Will Rogers World Oklahoma City, Tampa International, John Wayne Airport (Orange County) and the San Diego Airport.
