May 24, 2018

ANKENY, Iowa (May 24, 2018) — The U.S. Census Bureau issued a report today that ranks Ankeny fourth on the list of the 15 fastest-growing cities in the country with a population of 50,000 or more. Ankeny is the only city on the list outside of the South or West regions.

Between July 1, 2016 and July 1, 2017, Ankeny added 3,789 residents, an average of more than 10 people per day, for a growth rate of 6.4 percent. Ankeny completed a special census on Dec. 10, 2014, that showed the population to be 54,598. The 2017 estimate puts the population at 62,416 and today, the estimate stands at 65,000. Ankeny’s population has more than doubled over the last 15 years.

“Ankeny is a special place and it is no surprise to see us on this list again. Ankeny has what people are looking for in a place to live – it is a safe, family-friendly community with beautiful parks and trails, quality municipal services and a premier school district. Through the planning and vision of past and current city leaders, we have been able to stay on top of the growth by making investments to support quality growth while preserving our hometown feel,” said Ankeny City Manager David Jones. “The residential growth is only one part of Ankeny’s success. We are also seeing record breaking commercial investment and significant job creation. Our economy is strong and balanced, and with the confidence we are seeing from both developers and residents, I see another great year ahead of us.”
