Untapped Workforce Webinar to Highlight Hiring Employees with Disabilities

Disabilities in the Workplace

October 5, 2020

Now more than ever, investment in Diversity and Equity initiatives is critical to the health and overall success of any business. Millennials and experienced job seekers alike prefer to partner with employers that are fully inclusive and socially conscious. As opportunities for remote work increase, so does competition for top talent.

As part of the Greater Des Moines Partnership's Untapped Talent Series, I will be presenting during a virtual webinar focused on unique insights into the workforce crisis and changing perceptions of ability surrounding people with disabilities. This event will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. Thursday, October 8.

You are also invited to learn about how disability-friendly workspaces can equip your business with the tools to set you apart and attract applicants excited to join your team. "Increasing Access and Opportunity" will uncover how creating an ADA inclusive workspace can benefit your business and support employees with disabilities. Attendance is limited for this event, which will take place from 9 a.m. - Noon on Wednesday, October 28.

Celebrating Diversity in the Workplace

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) — a time to focus on the education of disability employment issues and to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities. To mark the 75th observance of NDEAM, and the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the 2020 NDEAM theme is "Increasing Access and Opportunity." In the past, many local events have been organized to celebrate NDEAM, but this year's statewide, virtual event will provide unique access and opportunities that were difficult to offer through smaller events.

Easter Seals, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services partnered together to design an event focused on providing business partners with valuable information regarding hiring and accommodating individuals with disabilities in the workplace.

Greater Des Moines (DSM) welcomes diverse talent to the region. As one of the fastest growing business communities, inclusion and attracting diverse talent in the workplace is a key strategy of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. Learn more here.
