National Farmers’ Market Week is Aug. 4 – 10, 2024 and highlights the important role and impact that farmers’ markets have on our communities.

Greater Des Moines (DSM) has over 20 local farmers’ markets around the region. These markets are the perfect place to purchase local produce for your next meal, find a unique gift for your friends and family and support your local community.

Celebrate National Farmers’ Market Week by checking out your local farmers’ market and support local business owners at these events, including the Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market on Saturdays May 4 – Oct. 26, or one near you.

Adair County

Dallas County

  • Adel Farmers’ Market at the Dallas County Fairgrounds on Tuesdays from 4 – 7 p.m.
  • The Perry Farmers’ Market is held on Thursdays from June 6 – Sept. 26 from 4 – 7 p.m. and hosts specials events on the third Thursday of each month.
  • Waukee’s Farmers’ Market is held at the Historic Triangle downtown each Wednesday June through September from 4 - 7 p.m.

Polk County

  • Altoona’s new farmers’ market, The Brightside Market, is held at Brightside Aleworks on Thursday nights May 23 – Aug. 29 from 5 – 8 p.m.
  • The Bondurant Farmers’ Market is held at the City Park on Wednesdays from May 1 – Oct. 30 from 6 – 8 p.m.
  • Des Moines has a variety of farmers’ markets for residents to enjoy, including:
    • The Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market is on Saturdays May 4 – Oct. 26 in Downtown Des Moines (DSM)’s Historic Court District. Market hours are 7 a.m. to Noon through September and 8 a.m. to Noon in October.
    • Beaverdale Farmers’ Market on Tuesdays June 4 – Sept. 10 from 4 – 7 p.m.
    • Attend the Eastside Farmers’ Market on Tuesdays from May 14 – Oct. 29 from 3 – 6 p.m.
    • Global Greens International Market, organized by Lutheran Services in Iowa, showcases refugee and immigrant vendors at its market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
    • Heart of Des Moines Farmers’ Market is held on the second Saturday of the month from June through October.
  • The Grimes Farmers’ Market is held on Saturday mornings June through September and features a young entrepreneur program to educate and grow future entrepreneurs in Grimes.
  • Johnston’s Farmers’ Market is held on Tuesdays June – September from 4 – 7 p.m.
  • Pleasant Hill holds its Community Farmers’ Market on Mondays from 4 – 7 p.m. and has more than 40 vendors.
  • The Polk City Farmers’ Market is located on the town square on Thursdays from 4 – 8 p.m.
  • Uptown Ankeny Farmers’ Market is held on Saturdays May 18 – Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to Noon. Pets are allowed in the city park, but not allowed in the market pavilion areas.
  • The Valley Junction Farmers’ Market in West Des Moines is held on Thursdays May through September from 4 – 8 p.m.

Jasper County

Madison County

Mahaska County

  • The Oskaloosa Vendor & Farmers’ Market is in downtown Oskaloosa and welcomes visitors on Tuesdays from 3 – 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. – Noon.

Marshall County

  • The Cartwright Downtown Farmers’ Market in Marshalltown is open twice weekly – on Wednesdays from 4 – 7 p.m. with a reduction in hours in September and October to 4 – 6 p.m. and on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to Noon.

Marion County

Poweshiek

  • The Grinnell Farmers’ Market is held in Central Park in downtown Grinnell May 9 – Oct. 19 Thursdays from 3 – 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – Noon.

Warren County

  • Carlisle hosts its farmers’ market June – October on Saturdays from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Indianola has two farmers’ markets for residents and visitors to enjoy. The Indianola Farmers’ Market is located at the Warren County Fairgrounds on Wednesdays from 4 – 7 p.m. The Indianola Downtown Farmers’ Market takes place on the Indianola square outside of the Warren County Justice Center on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. – Noon.
  • Norwalk’s Farmers’ Market is every Friday May through October from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Norwalk Christian Church.
