Hy-Vee COVID-19 Pandemic Services Support DEI Commitment
Hy-Vee has been recognized as a 2021 Inclusion Award winner by the Greater Des Moines Partnership for championing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout their business. Inclusion Award winners were selected by a committee of Inclusion Council members and Partnership team members.
Hy-Vee won in the Large Organization category (more than 500 employees) at the 9th Annual Inclusion Summit, held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the FFA Enrichment Center at the Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny Campus. The Summit’s theme — Equity in Action — gave attendees the opportunity to learn more about what equity means, discover tools and resources to build equity-centered practices and honor the four Inclusion Award winners of 2021.
DEI + the COVID-19 Pandemic
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Hy-Vee served the community through its Aisles Online program and by administering COVID-19 tests and vaccines, including booster doses and pediatric doses, to underserved populations. Hy-Vee found creative ways to provide services to the sick and elderly and kept its doors open by introducing social distancing and sanitation practices in its stores. Hy-Vee built partnerships with nonprofits serving diverse populations and hires those with disabilities, youth and more.
Georgia Van Gundy, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, said that Hy-Vee, with its over 91,000 employees operating in eight states and strives to be the best place to work and shop in America. To do this, Hy-Vee must be a welcoming place for everyone. In the past year, Hy-Vee has ramped up DEI efforts across the company and will continue to do so in the future.
To qualify for the Inclusion Award, businesses must be a Partnership Member or Investor.
