The Great DSM Hot Air Balloon Hunt Begins This Weekend
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Jan. 19, 2021) – Greater Des Moines (DSM) residents can find a fun surprise in Downtown DSM during the next two weekends. The Great DSM Hot Air Balloon Hunt will take place Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23, and again on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30 at various locations Downtown, weather permitting. Glowing hot air balloons will be stationed in different locations throughout Downtown from 6 – 7:30 p.m. each night.
Residents are encouraged to come Downtown and discover several hot air balloons glowing throughout the different business and retail districts. The balloons will conveniently be located in close proximity to retailers, restaurants and attractions throughout Downtown to encourage patrons to support local while participating in the balloon hunt, such as by picking up food from local restaurants.
Clues to the exact location of the glowing balloons will be made public on the day of the event as the Great DSM Hot Air Balloon Hunt is weather dependent. Residents can follow @downtownDSMUSA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for clues on where to find the balloons and to make sure the balloons will be lit based on weather. Once spotted, balloon hunters are encouraged to post photos of the glowing balloons on social media and include #downtownDSM and #DSMlocal.

Hot air balloonist pilots and volunteers will be wearing masks.
