Partnership Unveils 2024 State Policy Priorities At Legislative Leadership Breakfast

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Dec. 12, 2023) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership unveiled its 2024 state policy priorities at today’s Legislative Leadership Breakfast. The Partnership’s State Policy Agenda was developed by its Government Policy Council, which consists of Business Members from The Partnership’s 23 Affiliate Chambers of Commerce and 400+ Investors. Included in the agenda is a list of featured priorities that will drive The Partnership’s state policy efforts. The Partnership will focus on the following priorities: 

Economic Development 

Recognizing the competitive nature of economic development and the vital need to attract business and talent to Iowa, The Partnership supports economic development tools and incentives that enable local governments and complement the overall tax environment. 

Work-Based Learning 

The Partnership supports efforts to increase work-based learning programs and policies to expand Iowa’s talent pathways, reduce barriers and foster first-hand career experiences for Iowans.  

Child Care  

The Partnership supports policies and additional investment for programs that increase access to affordable and quality child care options for Iowa families.  

Housing  

The Partnership supports the expansion of housing options through funding and policies that incentivize communities and employers to invest in new and existing housing for all Iowans

Placemaking  

Placemaking is important to talent attraction and retention and plays a key role in the transformation of Iowa communities, main streets and local economies. The Partnership supports continued investment in programs that support placemaking projects driven by public-private partnerships.

Additionally, The Partnership announced that it will host the 2024 Opening Night Legislative Reception on Thursday, Jan. 8. The Partnership and its Affiliate Chambers will welcome the 90th Iowa General Assembly to the 2024 Legislative Session.
