Greater Des Moines Recognized as Top Place For Young Professionals

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Aug. 14, 2023) – Greater Des Moines (DSM) has been named the #1 Place for Young Professionals to live, according to Forbes.  

DSM was recognized as an affordable place to live with significant major employers and ample quality of life amenities.  

  • DSM ranked eighth-lowest for monthly rent costs at $1,103. 
  • DSM’s unemployment rate ranks seventh-lowest among the top 100 markets at 2.4%, and “applicants reportedly find work quickly.” 
  • The region has a median age of 36.4 years.  
  • “The (DSM region) is full of vibrant attractions and events that appeal to young adults, such as annual festivals and music and entertainment venues throughout Downtown Des Moines.”
