Des Moines Social Club announces their inaugural 'DMSC Presents' music series.

February 10, 2016

The ‘DMSC Presents’ series for Winter / Spring 2016 highlights local, regional, and national artists who are unique in genre, but parallel in their commitment to artistic excellence and advancing their chosen disciplines. From the Tuvan throatsingers to a 1920’s revivalist swing band, the ‘DMSC Presents’ series will offer audiences an opportunity for inspiration, discovery and education.

“We are excited to host such a talented roster of artists to kick off this music series,” said Mickey Davis, Program Manager. “Our commitment to artistic diversity in genre and discipline at the Social Club is reflected in the broad range of performers who will grace our stage during the ‘DMSC Presents’ series. The artists in this carefully curated lineup are equally inspired by their own heritage as they are by modern rock, jazz, and electronic music. We are honored to provide a stage for these performers to push the boundaries of artistic and cultural expectation especially in a city like Des Moines! Additionally, we are proud to present many talented, local artists as opening acts for this series.”

Bye Bye 17, the new album from Har Mar Superstar (aka Sean Tillmann), is currently out on Cult Records. Already receiving widespread critical praise, BULLETT Magazine calls the album, “impossibly groovy and infectious,” while KCRW Radio asserts, “I’d call the album a guilty pleasure but I don’t feel guilty at all. It’s just packed full of hooks.”

Two years ago, almost to the day, electronic/dance duo, MAIDS , and energetic rock 'n rollers, Gloom Balloon , opened for Har Mar Superstar at one of the first concerts in the history of the Kum & Go Theater. We're thrilled to bring this lineup back for a celebratory reunion of sorts.

DMSC PRESENTS: Kneedelus
A Live Collaboration between Kneebody + Daedelus
4/14/16, 9 p.m.
The Basement, 901 Cherry St., Des Moines
$10/advance, $12/door, $10/student (must present ID)

The collaboration between the instrumental quintet Kneebody and electronic musician Daedelus had its initial roots planted as far back as high school for old friends saxophonist Ben Wendel and Alfred Darlington. The pair’s early musical kinship in southern California seeded a connection that grew through numerous collaborations, recordings and live performances over the years coming to fruition in an improvised performance in 2009 at, 'Jazz A Vienne,' between their two primary music vehicles — Kneebody and Daedelus. When Wendel was awarded a composition grant through Chamber Music America it became a catalyst to write a series of pieces that would bridge the gap between the indescribable world of Kneebody and the unique aesthetic of Daedelus. When the quintet entered the studio with Darlington, the other members brought more compositions to the fore and the result is a 9-song set of original music that sits inside the rich pantheon of instrumental music, but with a modern sheen that takes the shape of a multiheaded beast straddling rock, jazz and electronic music.

Press and photo credentials now being accepted.
