It is important during this time to take care of your mental health and be cognizant of the mental health of those around you. Below are some community resources and tips that may be able to help you, a family member and/or a friend during the COVID-19 pandemic.
NAMI Greater Des Moines
NAMI Greater Des Moines recently launched a new website called “We Are Here. With You.” This site helps provide resources during uncertainty, as well as practical tools to help navigate new situations. Besides the new redesign of their website, NAMI Greater Des Moines is also launching several new series — the first being the Speaker Series. A series of three webinars highlighting mental health will follow.
NAMI Greater Des Moines Speaker Series
The Speaker Series starts at Noon on Wednesday, April 8 and will continue for the next seven weeks every Wednesday at the same time. Join NAMI Greater Des Moines as they host nationally renowned motivational speakers on a variety of topics. LEARN MORE>
NAMI Greater Des Moines Webinars
NAMI Greater Des Moines will also host a series of three webinars on mental health at 1 p.m. on the following days: April 13, 20 and 27. Event topics include Understanding Anxiety, Managing Stress and Understanding Depression. REGISTER>
Polk County Health Department
In regards to mental health, the Polk County Health Department has some resources available that may be able to help during this time. Some helpful tips on how to take care of yourself and those are around you include:
- Take time to unwind.
- Reach out to a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while — either by a phone call, mailing a letter, text or a video call.
- Take breaks from watching, reading or listening to the news.
- Keep a regular routine as best as you can.
Healthiest State Initiative
The Healthiest State Initiative recently put together information on Mental Health & COVID-19. Highlights include tools for supporting your child, tips on working from home and organizational contact information for businesses like the CDC, NAMI and more.
