Welcoming Legislators to DSM

2021 Legislative Session

January 19, 2021

Most years on the first day of session, The Greater Des Moines Partnership holds a legislative reception along with our 24 Affiliate Chambers and local restaurants to welcome State Senators and State Representatives to Greater Des Moines (DSM). Usually, our reception is held near the Iowa State Capitol building allowing state elected officials the opportunity to stop by and converse with The Partnership's Investors and Affiliate Members while sampling delicious food and beverages from local chamber restaurants.

2021 Legislative Reception

Instead of a reception this year, we compiled a Restaurant Guide listing chamber member restaurants to be used as a resource when deciding where to eat and socialize. The Restaurant Guide features restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and bars from 24 different cities listed alphabetically. The guide features emojis to better identify if the restaurant offers dine-in, curbside, delivery or catering. We also crafted a welcome video from small business owners who were unable to greet and welcome our State Elected Officials in person. Watch below.

We understand that the beginning of 2021 continues to look different than years past, but The Partnership’s Policy Team will continue to advocate for the 2021 State Legislative Agenda and featured priorities — Broadband, Invest in Iowa, Child Care, Justice Reform and Community Placemaking — among other priorities at the Iowa State Capitol this session. If you are looking to get more involved with the drafting of future state policy agendas, please contact Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy Andrea Woodard or myself.

To stay up to date with the latest Greater Des Moines Partnership policy events and policy information on a local, state and federal level please sign up for the Government Policy Council (GPC) weekly newsletter here. Lastly, use our state policy resource webpage for information on how to find and safely contact your state elected officials. We look forward to working together to grow DSM in 2021 and beyond.

The Partnership's Public Policy team engages with local, state and federal officials to create public policy that generates economic growth, business prosperity and talent development in Greater Des Moines (DSM). The Partnership is a nonpartisan organization.
