Senior Living Education Series Coming to Jasper County
For most older adults in Jasper County, Plan A is simple: stay home as long as possible. That is a great plan. But what happens when life doesn't follow the plan?
That question is what launched the Senior Living Education Series in January 2025. Founded by Andy Algreen, Senior Downsizing Coach and REALTOR with the Algreen Legcy Group through Keller Williams Greater Des Moines, SLES was built to fill a gap no one else in Jasper County was filling.
Older adults and their families were making some of the most important decisions of their lives without access to trustworthy, local, pressure-free education. So he built it.
Empowering Older Adults in Newton
The mission is simple: educate, equip and empower older adults and their families to make confident decisions about their future. No sales pitches. No hidden agendas. Just real information from real experts, every month, free to the public.
Topics have ranged from the psychology of letting go, to knowing when it is time to make a move, to downsizing with confidence. Each session features a panel of local professionals and is designed to build on the last, giving attendees a clearer picture over time.
What started at The Gathering Place in Monroe has grown steadily, and in April 2026 the series relocated to the DMACC Newton Campus at 600 N. 2nd Ave. West in Newton to better serve an expanding audience across the region. Seminars are held the first Thursday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m.
"Most people 65 and older don't want to think about aging, so they put it off until life gets harder. These seminars help start the conversation and guide us to plan for the final chapters of life before it's too late." — Jane Berry
"I began attending when my 93-year-old mother needed to downsize, but quickly realized the information was just as valuable for my husband and me. The speakers are honest, knowledgeable and practical." — Deb Hansch
