Ankeny Regional Airport to Extend Runway to Accommodate Larger Aircraft
Following the acquisition of a $2.5 million federal investment through the FY2026 Community Project Funding (CPF) process, Ankeny Regional Airport is set to extend its runway. The project, which will extend the primary runway by 500 feet, will allow Greater Des Moines (DSM) to compete with other metros in the Midwest, and since construction will happen in coordination with the airport's planned full runway reconstruction, it will also streamline the process and reduce overall costs.
What Does This Mean for Greater Des Moines?
The extension of Runway 18-36 by 500 feet will allow Ankeny Regional Airport to connect Central Iowa employers with opportunities nationwide, whether that be with customers or suppliers. As one of the Greater Des Moines Partnership's federal policy priorities, expansion of the Ankeny Regional Airport will also create strong transportation infrastructure. Keeping the region connected and investing in infrastructure is key to DSM's continued success.
