The Partnership’s Third Annual Downtown DSM Tweet Week Takes Flight In July
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (June 28, 2023) – Residents and visitors alike are invited to flock to Downtown Des Moines (DSM) for the 3rd annual Downtown DSM Tweet Week, produced by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, from July 8 – 16.
During Downtown DSM Tweet Week, 90 handcrafted ceramic birds are hidden throughout Downtown DSM neighborhoods, including the Historic East Village, Central Downtown, Historic Court District and Western Gateway. Visitors, residents and Downtown employees search for the birds using social media clues. A different local artist designs 10 birds that are hidden each day in select locations.
“We hope participants will find something new while they search for the hidden ceramic birds in Downtown Des Moines,” said Jerrica Marshall, Downtown Placemaking Manager at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “Whether it's learning about the local artists who designed the birds, discovering a new restaurant or shop nearby, or staying for an event down the street, there is so much to explore in Downtown DSM during Tweet Week.”
Participating artists include Linda Lewis, Emily McFarland, Diane Hayes, Jennifer Lee and Jami Milne.
This activity is free, thanks to sponsors MidAmerican Energy Company, Principal Financial Group, Prairie Meadows and Bravo Greater Des Moines.

Clues about the locations of the ceramic birds will be posted on the Downtown DSM social media channels each day during Tweet Week, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and by searching #downtownDSM. As residents and visitors search for ornaments, they are encouraged to shop local and show support for local businesses. The DSM Local Downtown DSM Buying Guide and DSM Local Historic East Village Buying Guide can assist with choosing restaurants and shops to visit near hidden bird locations to make the most of time spent in Downtown DSM during this event.
